Are you off to a fresh start, or have you backslid into a worn-out routine?

Use your tactical knowledge to launch your new business, get in shape, or accomplish any dream. Start with Leadership Weapon # 1: RUN YOUR RELOAD.

You know what to do in a gunfight: Move. Shoot. Re-load. Often, all at the same time. Leaders can apply many skills learned from a gunfighter.

MOVE

Commitment to your vision means you need to stay fluid. Plans change. Continually evaluate your progress and keep moving toward your goal so you will always be in the right place at the right time.

SHOOT

Pick your highest priority of the day and take aim. Some progress every day adds up quickly.

RELOAD

Your schedule is a weapon, and it needs reloading just like your firearm. You might use a computer-based calendar, a smart phone, or a trusty scratchpad. If you don’t use anything to plan your day, it’s as pointless as carrying around an empty gun.

Tactical Reload: Make smart decisions on setting and changing your schedule. In a gunfight, this reload is only done when it is to your tactical advantage. In life, review and update your schedule when you have the time and opportunity. Stay focused, but don’t be so rigid that you can’t make time for an unexpected chance to have lunch with your spouse, or surprise your son and ask him to play catch.

Emergency Reload: When your gun runs dry in the middle of a firefight, it’s critical to get it operational again as soon as possible. We all train to run an emergency reload in a smooth, efficient manner.

Combat-like conditions seem to be in all our lives from time to time, both in the office and at home. During any crisis, be smooth. This one trait alone will help you be a great leader.
